Gumball 3000

GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

For two weeks each spring, the automotive world descends upon Geneva for what is one of the most eagerly anticipated shows in the automotive calendar.

Every year, the heavy hitters select Geneva as the place to launch their latest and greatest creations and 2016 did not fail to deliver.

At 10am McLaren were announcing their first venture into the GT market with their latest variant of the Sport Series, the 570GT.

Based on the 570S, the 570GT offers up additional storage via a very smart, side hinged rear hatch where 220 litres of space can be found in the form of a leather-lined deck. This is, of course, in addition to the 150 litres of space located at the front of the car underneath the bonnet.

The changes do not stop at storage however; with a panoramic glass roof the cabin immediately feels a more spacious and bright environment to be inside than that of oppressive sports coupes. Throw in some soft closing doors, refined exhaust note and trick Pirelli rubber with sound insulating foam and you have yourself a quite luxurious Sports GT.

Perhaps this could be a strong contender for future Gumballers to consider? With 0-62mph coming in 3.4 seconds and enough room in the back for a deadmau5 helmet, surely this seems like the ideal fit for attaching 3000 miles in 7 days…

Okay that’s enough practical talk for one morning, time to go Hyper Hunting.

First stop, Pagani.

Within the motoring world, Pagani create pieces of automotive art whereas rivals are led by the constrains of engineering and science. Where others use bolts and rivets, Pagani choose luxurious leather hand stitched clasps, multiple panels are replaced by single forms of naked carbon fibre.

Horacio Pagani has always maintained a vision and direction that he feels is best explained by Leonardo da Vinci ‘’Art and Science are disciplines that need to walk alongside.’’

Pagani’s latest rendition of ‘The God of Wind’ is known as the Huarya BC.

’Hypercar’ has long been the buzzword for many a journalist and car spotter.

In a generation where cars regularly exceed 200mph, manufacturers continuously seek to raise the bar & set new boundaries.

When talking about Hypercar manufacturers, one need look no further than Bugatti. In 2005 Bugatti set out to, quite simply, produce the fastest road legal production car in the world. Fast forward 11 years and the demand for cars beyond that of a super nature, has increased dramatically with the likes of Koenigsegg & Pagani taking a huge share of this seemingly once bespoke market.

Maximillion can be found centre-stage on what is by far the busiest stand at the Geneva Motorshow - for the same reason as everyone else! To witness the resurgence of a former heavyweight champion of the Hypercar division.

The 8 litre, 16 cylinder engine combined with 4 turbos to produce 1479bhp and 1180lb ft torque. As a result 0-62mph comes in less than 2.5 seconds, 0-124mph in 6.5 seconds and the top speed...? Well the sensible engineers at Bugatti decided to limit this to 261mph, just to be safe of course.

However, Bugatti are due to attempt a top speed run on wider Michelin tyres and the figure is expected to exceed that of 270mph at which speed this superlative centaur will empty its 100-litre tank in under 9 minutes…

The Bugatti Chiron, yours for just £1.9m.
