INTERVIEW WITH GUMBALL ALUMNI JOSH CARTU1>
Since the first Rally in 1999 Gumball has seen participants from all over the world and walks of life come together once a year to experience what Vanity Fair magazine called "the most rock n' roll rally ever staged."
From the completion of their first Rally the participants are then members of the Gumball Alumni, a group so vast and full of Gumball stories that it's time to delve in and get an inside look at their cars, their life and why they do Gumball...
Gumball talks to Josh Cartu, three-time Gumball participant as he tells us why the Rally is the ultimate dream...
I'm an automotive enthusiast / gentleman race car driver and sometimes I fly fighter jets. I moonlight as a test pilot for AFCorse Ferrari but mostly that's just an excuse to drive really fast without going to jail. I like cars, girls, rock and roll and long walks on the beach.
I started out in online gaming and media but I'm mostly in software development and fin-tech.
2013, 2014 and just the tail end of 2015. We won best team in 2014... That was really fun.
In 2013 I brought my Novitec 458 spider, F12, and Phantom EWB. The spider was fully kitted out with most upgrades from Novitec, lowered and had adv1 wheels as well. The F12 also had some suspension and wheel work done but was otherwise unchanged. The Phantom is the Phantom and... We don't play games with the Phantom... Only whilst in the Phantom.
2014 because we won the team prize that year. It was also my second year on Gumball and once you know everyone and everyone knows you are as crazy as they are, the fun increases significantly.
Barcelona... Watch the videos... It was insane. It took us an hour just to inch through the crowds and then I had thousands of people screaming Wolfpack begging for our t shirts... It was utterly insane and I have to confess that I've never had so many people's attention at once... It was utterly intoxicating. Every aspect of what Wolfpack does this for the fans and nothing makes me happier than pleasing the crowd... Especially the kids.
Oh wow... Each day had moments more crazy than the next. In 2013 we were at premier park in Finland and from all the drivers and cars, I did the quickest lap there... Winning the team prize in 2014... Fighting with Deadmau5 in a bidding war over Tony Hawk's skateboard... Barcelona... It's waking up from a dream and realizing that you've actually lived it.
The waking dream
I already had the best co-pilot. My best friend Shay Sabag. The only other person who could handle my driving and make sure I don't get punched out by someone would be my brother David. Would love to do he rally with both my brothers some day. In 2013, David was as good as me at riling up the fans and in 2014, Shay was pretty epic too.
Gumball is a very special experience because in the sea of insanity, fast driving, wild parties and no sleep, you become the person you really want to be. It's like your inner rock star wakes up and with everyone else doing the same, your inhibitions fall away and you can become the best version of yourself.. The person you always wanted to be. There is absolutely no way to describe the feeling. Nothing compares to it... It must be experienced.
I've got several but I guess the more interesting cars would be the BAC Mono, Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta, 488GTB, F12TDF, Rolls Royce Phantom EWB, 488GTS (spider) and finally... a LaFerrari on the way.
